World Day of Prayer for Vocations 2023

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations on April 30, 2023.

Cardinal Blase Cupich has called World Day of Prayer for Vocations as an Annual Vocations Appeal within the Archdiocese. Every year, World Day of Prayer for Vocations falls on Good Shepherd Sunday. We see in Jesus, the Good Shepherd, the heart of every calling. He says, “A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” The mission of Jesus culminated in his self-sacrificing love. He gave himself so that we might live. This is the great mystery of love present in the Eucharist: “This is my body, given up for you. This is my blood, poured out for you.” Everyone is called, and everyone has a vocation in the Church. 

Cardinal Blase Cupich along with all parish priests will be sharing their own vocation story during Mass. We ask all to participate in your parishes for Mass. On this special day we continue to ask all to be generous in praying for and supporting vocations to the priesthood, consecrated life, and permanent diaconate. 

In addition, on Friday, May 12th, the Vocation Office will be hosting Mass and a Eucharistic Holy Hour for vocations: marriage, single life, lay vocations, ordained, and consecrated life. We will celebrate and pray for those preparing for ordination to the diaconate and priesthood in our archdiocese. The Mass and Holy Hour is open for all and will be held at Holy Name Cathedral (735 N. State St.) from 5:30-7:00p.m. Cardinal Blase Cupich, will be the main celebrant along with priests, seminarians, religious, and all accompanying in prayer. All are encouraged to join as families and community groups.

Este año marca el 60 aniversario de la Jornada Mundial de Oración por las Vocaciones el 30 de abril de 2023.

El Cardenal Blase Cupich ha convocado el Día Mundial de Oración por las Vocaciones como una Campaña Anual de Vocaciones dentro de la Arquidiócesis. Cada año, la Jornada Mundial de Oración por las Vocaciones cae el Domingo del Buen Pastor. Vemos en Jesús, el Buen Pastor, el corazón de toda vocación. Él dice: “El buen pastor da su vida por las ovejas”. La misión de Jesús culminó en su amor abnegado. Él se entregó a sí mismo para que podamos vivir. Este es el gran misterio de amor presente en la Eucaristía: “Esto es mi cuerpo, entregado por vosotros. Esta es mi sangre, derramada por vosotros”. Todos son llamados, y todos tienen vocación en la Iglesia.

El Cardenal Blase Cupich junto con todos los párrocos compartirán su propia historia vocacional durante la Misa. Les pedimos a todos que participen en sus parroquias para la Misa. En este día especial, seguimos pidiendo a todos que sean generosos en la oración y el apoyo a las vocaciones al sacerdocio, vida consagrada y diaconado permanente.

Además, el viernes 12 de mayo, la Oficina de Vocaciones ofrecerá una Misa y una Hora Santa Eucarística por las vocaciones: matrimonio, vida soltera, vocaciones laicales, vida ordenada y consagrada. Celebraremos y oraremos por aquellos que se preparan para la ordenación al diaconado y al sacerdocio en nuestra arquidiócesis. La Misa y la Hora Santa están abiertas para todos y se llevarán a cabo en la Catedral del Santo Nombre (735 N. State St.) de 5:30 p.m. a 7:00 p.m. El cardenal Blase Cupich, será el celebrante principal junto a sacerdotes, seminaristas, religiosos y todos los acompañantes en oración. Se anima a todos a unirse como familias y grupos comunitarios.
