Blessing of the Throats

On February 3, the Church celebrates the feast day of Saint Blaise. Saint Blaise was a bishop in the city of Sebaste, part of modern-day Armenia. He was persecuted by the Roman Empire for his faith. While Bishop Blaise was in prison, he is said to have performed a miraculous healing. A woman had a son who was choking on a fish bone. She brought the boy to St. Blaise and asked him to help her son. Blaise prayed that God would heal the child, and suddenly, the bone became dislodged and the boy could breathe again! Bishop Blaise reminded the people who had witnessed the miracle to thank God for this sign of his love. As a result of this story, people pray to Saint Blaise for healing of all illnesses of the throat. 

In honor of the Feast Day of Saint Blaise, a special blessing of the throat will be offered to everyone after all Sunday Masses this weekend (Feb 3rd & 4th).

BENDICIÓN DE LAS GARGANTAS

El 3 de febrero la Iglesia celebra la fiesta de San Blas. San Blas era obispo de la ciudad de Sebaste, parte de la actual Armenia. Fue perseguido por el Imperio Romano por su fe. Mientras el obispo Blas estaba en prisión, se dice que realizó una curación milagrosa. Una mujer tenía un hijo que se estaba ahogando con una espina de pescado. Le llevó al niño a San Blas y le pidió que ayudara a su hijo. Blas oró para que Dios sanara al niño, de repente, el hueso se desprendió y el niño pudo respirar nuevamente. El obispo Blas recordó a las personas que habían presenciado el milagro que debían agradecer a Dios por este signo de su amor. A raíz de esta historia, la gente reza a San Blas por la curación de todas las enfermedades de la garganta.

En honor al día de San Blas, se ofrecerá una bendición especial de garganta a todos después de las Misas dominicales (3 y 4 de febrero).
