Fr. Robinson&#039;s Message 5/28/23

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

It is with great sadness that all Catholics have received the report from the Illinois Attorney General regarding sexual abuse by some clerics. Our prayer must be for all the victims of these abusers. May the Lord help them, especially in their healing process. I invite you to read the full statement of Cardinal Cupich on the following pages. I renew my commitment as a pastor to ensure a safe space in our community for children, youth, and adults. Together we must ensure that each person is valued and respected in their integrity and dignity. As we pray for the victims, let us also pray for ourselves so that the Lord gives us the strength we need to remain faithful in our faith united with Christ, the Good Shepherd.

This weekend I want to welcome all of you who come to celebrate the Mass with us here at St. Augustine. In a special way, we welcome Bishop Andrew Wypych, Episcopal Vicar of Vicariate 5 of the Archdiocese of Chicago, who on behalf of Cardinal Cupich, presides over my installation as pastor. Through the bishop, I express my gratitude to the Cardinal and the Archdiocese for entrusting me with this great mission.

Thank you also to the priests who accompany us, to the civil authorities who are present, to my parents who have come from Colombia, and to all the parishioners who celebrate this beautiful event with us. In a special way, I thank the committee that has prepared the reception and the Eucharist.

My heart is grateful for the many displays of affection since the creation of St. Augustine Parish. Our parish has great potential. Being about to complete the first year of our unification, I have been able to witness the effort that we have all been making to form our community. I have observed the tireless work of the catechists to accommodate so many children and youth in the religious education program, in our SPRED program for children and youth with intellectual disabilities, and the work of our teachers and administrators at the school. Without a doubt, where we have been able to feel the experience of our unification the most has been in the celebration of the Eucharist. In particular, I want to highlight the beautiful celebrations of Holy Week, where together, in both languages, we were able to commemorate the sacred mysteries of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We were also able to rejoice with those brothers and sisters of ours who celebrated their sacraments of initiation. So many opportunities that we have not missed but have done what the Lord has asked of us: to love one another. This is just the beginning, we are still in this transition phase, but soon we will be able to continue seeing the fruit of this unification. There are so many possibilities that inspire me and move me to ask the Lord to continue to be present in our community. Together we can help each other to discover and deepen our relationship with God.

May the Blessed Mother intercede for us before the Lord so that we may be faithful to the mission that Christ has left us: to make it known to all so that they may have life, and life in abundance. As we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost this weekend, let us pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to inspire us in that mission and remove any fears we may have in the face of the potential that lies before our eyes, right here at our St. Augustine Parish community.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,

Con gran tristeza todos los Católicos hemos recibido el reporte del Procurador del Estado de Illinois acerca del abuso sexual por parte de algunos clérigos. Nuestra oración debe ser por todas las víctimas de estos abusadores. Que el Señor las ayude, especialmente en su proceso de sanación. Los invito para que lean completa la declaración del Cardenal Cupich en las siguientes páginas. Renuevo mi compromiso como párroco de garantizar un espacio seguro en nuestra comunidad para niños, jóvenes y adultos. Entre todos debemos velar para que cada persona sea valorada y respetada en su integridad y dignidad. Al orar por las víctimas también oremos por nosotros para que el Señor nos dé la fortaleza que necesitamos para avanzar en nuestra fe unidos a Cristo, el Buen Pastor.

En este fin de semana quiero dar la bienvenida a todos ustedes que vienen a celebrar la Santa misa con nosotros aquí en San Agustín. De manera especial, le damos la bienvenida al Obispo Andrew Wypych, vicario episcopal de la Vicaría 5 de la Arquidiócesis de Chicago, quien en nombre del Cardenal Cupich, preside mi instalación como párroco. Por medio del señor obispo, manifiesto mi agradecimiento al Cardenal y a la Arquidiócesis por confiar en mí para esta magna misión.

Gracias también a los sacerdotes que nos acompañan, a las autoridades civiles que se hacen presentes, a mis padres que han venido desde Colombia, y a todos los parroquianos que celebran con nosotros este bonito acontecimiento. En particular, agradezco al comité que ha preparado la recepción y la Eucaristía.

Tengo el corazón agradecido por las muchas muestras de afecto desde la creación de la parroquia San Agustín. Gracias por su generosidad y apoyo a este su servidor. Nuestra parroquia tiene gran potencial. Estando a punto de culminar el primer año de nuestra unificación, he podido ser testigo del esfuerzo que todos hemos estado haciendo para formar nuestra comunidad. He observado el trabajo incansable de los catequistas para acomodar a tantos niños y jóvenes en el programa de educación religiosa, en nuestro programa para niños y jóvenes con discapacidades intelectuales SPRED, y la labor de nuestros maestros y administradores en la escuela. Sin duda alguna, donde más hemos podido palpar la experiencia de nuestra unificación, ha sido en la celebración de la Eucaristía. De manera particular, quiero resaltar las hermosas celebraciones de la Semana Santa, donde juntos, en ambos idiomas, pudimos conmemorar los sagrados misterios de la pasión, muerte y resurrección de Jesucristo. También pudimos celebrar a aquellos hermanos y hermanas nuestros que celebraron sus sacramentos de iniciación. Tantas oportunidades que no hemos desaprovechado, sino que hemos hecho lo que el Señor nos ha pedido de amarnos unos a otros. Este es solo el comienzo, aún estamos en esta etapa de transición, pero pronto podremos seguir viendo el fruto de esta unificación. Hay tantas posibilidades que me inspiran y me mueven a pedir al Señor que se siga haciendo presente en nuestra comunidad. Entre todos podremos ayudar unos a otros a descubrir y profundizar nuestra relación con Dios.

Que la Santísima Virgen María interceda por nosotros ante el Señor para que seamos fieles a la misión que Cristo nos ha dejado: darlo a conocer a todos para que tengan vida, y vida en abundancia. Al celebrar la Fiesta de Pentecostés este fin de semana, oremos para que el Espíritu Santo siga inspirándonos en esa misión y para que quite cualquier miedo que tengamos frente al potencial que se presenta ante nuestros ojos, justo aquí en nuestra parroquia San Agustín.
