May 11, 2024Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Happy and blessed day to all our mothers and those who fulfill that role in our community. May God continue to bless and strengthen you in such a great mission. May the Most Holy Blessed Mother intercede for you and help you feel the presence of Christ near you.
Registration for religious education is now open (click here). Please do not wait until the last minute to register. We have a limited number of places and we want many families to have the possibility of offering education in the faith to their children here at St. Augustine. Please see more information on the next page.
On Saturday, May 11, 15 new permanent and transitional deacons were ordained for service in our Archdiocese. The newly ordained deacons will assist the bishop and priests in ministries of the Word, Liturgy and Charity. This includes proclaiming the Gospel, leading intercessions, preaching, preparing the altar, celebrating baptisms, leading the faithful in prayer, distributing holy communion, witnessing marriages and conducting wake and funeral services. Deacons also identify the needs of poor and underserved, and shepherd the Church's resources to meet those needs. Let us say a prayer for our deacon Robert Powers on the fifth anniversary of his ordination.
Next Saturday, May 18, Cardinal Cupich will ordain 4 new priests for ministerial service in our Archdiocese. Please keep in prayer those soon to be called Fathers Timothy Berryhill, Martin Nyberg, Andrew Panzer, and Juan Vargas.
On Saturday, May 18, we will also have our celebration of the 100 years of St. Christopher School. During the event we will honor Sister Laurinda Hefel, who served the school for almost 50 years, and we will also thank her entire religious community of the Franciscan Sisters of Dubuque, who maintained their presence at the school for those 100 years. God bless our entire school community, students, teachers, employees, and their families.
On Saturday, May 4 at the University of St. Mary of the Lake – Mundelein Seminary, 9 of our parishioners received their certification in Lay Ministry after two years of studies and efforts (click here). Now they will be presenting their projects and ministries for our parish community. If you want to get certified, there will be an informational meeting this Thursday, May 16 at 7 pm in the Unit D building, door 210. The certification can be in Spanish or English. Congratulations and thanks to our graduating parishioners: Ana Barragán, Elsa Gutiérrez, Julio Martínez, Silvia Méndez, Claudia Montiel, María Pimentel, Francisco Ramírez, Socorro Ramírez, and Juan Valle.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,
Feliz día a todas nuestras madres y a quienes cumplen ese papel en nuestra comunidad. Que Dios las siga bendiciendo y fortaleciendo en tan magna misión. Que María Santísima interceda por ustedes y les ayude a sentir la presencia de Cristo cerca de ustedes.
Ya están abiertas las registraciones para la educación religiosa (click aquí). Por favor no esperen hasta el último momento para registrarse. Tenemos un número limitado de cupos y queremos que muchas familias puedan tener la posibilidad de ofrecer la educación en la fe a sus hijos aquí en San Agustín. El sábado 11 de mayo fueron ordenados 15 nuevos diáconos permanentes y transitorios para el servicio en nuestra Arquidiócesis. Los diáconos recién ordenados ayudarán al obispo y a los sacerdotes en los ministerios de la Palabra, Liturgia y apostolado de caridad. Esto incluye proclamar el Evangelio, dirigir intercesiones, predicar, preparar el altar, celebrar bautismos, guiar a los fieles en oración, distribuir la sagrada comunión, presenciar matrimonios y realizar velorios y funerales. Los diáconos también identifican las necesidades de los pobres y marginados, y pastorean los recursos de la Iglesia para satisfacer esas necesidades. Elevemos una oración por nuestro diácono Robert Powers en el quinto aniversario de su ordenación.
El próximo sábado 18 de mayo, el Cardenal Cupich ordenará a 4 nuevos sacerdotes para el servicio ministerial en nuestra Arquidiócesis. Por favor mantengan en oración a los que pronto serán llamados padres Timothy Berryhill, Martin Nyberg, Andrew Panzer, y Juan Vargas.
El sábado 18 de mayo también tendremos nuestra celebración de los 100 años de la Escuela de San Christopher. Durante el evento honraremos a la Hermana Laurinda Hefel, quen sirvió la escuela por casi 50 años, y también agradeceremos a toda su comunidad de las Franciscanas de Dubuque, quienes mantuvieron su presencia en la escuela por esos 100 años. Dios bendiga a toda nuestra comunidad escolar, a los estudiantes, maestros, empleados, y a sus familias.
El sábado 4 de mayo en la Universidad de Santa María del Lago – Seminario de Mundelein, 9 de nuestros parroquianos recibieron su certificación en Ministerio Laico después de dos años de estudios y esfuerzos (click aquí). Ahora ellos estarán presentando sus proyectos y ministerios para nuestra comunidad parroquial. Si usted quiere certificarse, habrá una reunión informativa este jueves 16 de mayo a las 7 pm en el edificio Unit D, puerta 210. La certificación puede ser en español o inglés.
