Fr. Robinson's Message 12/18/22

December 18, 2022Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We have reached the last Sunday of Advent. It has already been three weeks of preparation for the Nativity of the Lord. In these weeks I have been able to reflect on how beautiful it is to live as if the Messiah is among us. Remember that this is a wonderful message from the beginning of our Advent book “Holy Moments.” Living as if the Messiah were among us helps prepare our hearts to welcome with kindness, charity and humility all those we meet along the way. It is Christ who is passing in front of us; it is the Lord himself who comes to our door to ask that we receive him with love and respect; it is God who sometimes appears in people who are difficult to love, but even so, are beloved children of God, and we can only respect their dignity.
Within a week we will be receiving many people who may not have returned to Mass in several months and even years. Everyone is welcome to our St. Augustine Parish. I encourage all parishioners to keep and strengthen our capacity to be hospitable. May all who come to the Christmas Masses feel that this is their community, that they belong, that we are the Church of Christ, a community of faith united by love for Our Lord and our Blessed Mother. May all who come experience Christ so that they may follow him all the days of his life.
A week ago, I wrote to you about the work done in the parish office. I also want to direct your gaze to the outside of our campus. The maintenance team, Charlie Bostrom and Galdino Saldaña, have been working hard to keep our campus beautiful. As you have seen, many of the branches of the trees in the office and rectory area have been cut and repaired. Many leaves have clogged the drains of those two buildings and it was necessary to take some measure. Thanks to Galdino for, as he says, “cutting the hair of the trees.”
I also want to let you know that part of the school's roof was changed over the summer, particularly the roof over the gym. The final cost of the project was $235,950. In May, the financial council, the director of the school, Fr. Kris and I met to discuss the project. Some of the money was taken from the Bingo account and from other parish savings. Thank you to all the Bingo volunteers and players for your generosity to our parish community. Thanks to all of you who have contributed in one way or another so that these improvement projects can be carried out on our campus. There is still another roof to be repaired in the school building. We will be informing you about this project in the following semester.
The heating and air conditioning project for Unit D is a necessity and I look forward to updating you during Mass. Any money we use for capital projects should be returned to the accounts for future needs. That is why I continue asking everyone to collaborate in this project since all will benefit. I thank the parishioners and organizations that have already expressed their desire to contribute to make the project a reality.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,
Hemos llegado al último domingo de Adviento. Han sido ya tres semanas de preparación para la Natividad del Señor. En estas semanas he podido reflexionar acerca de lo hermoso que es vivir como si el Mesías estuviera entre nosotros. Recuerden que ese es un mensaje maravilloso que está al comienzo de nuestro libro de Adviento “Momentos Sagrados.” Vivir como si el Mesías estuviera entre nosotros ayuda a disponer nuestro corazón para acoger con bondad, caridad y humildad a todos aquellos con los que nos cruzamos en el camino. Es Cristo quien está pasando frente a nosotros, es el Señor mismo quien llega a nuestra puerta para pedir que lo recibamos con cariño y respeto, es Dios quien aparece a veces en personas difíciles de amar, pero que aún así, son hijos amados de Dios y no podemos más que respetar su dignidad.
Dentro de una semana estaremos recibiendo a muchas personas que tal vez no han regresado a Misa en varios meses e incluso años. Sean todos bienvenidos a nuestra Parroquia San Agustín. Animo a todos los parroquianos para que mantengamos y fortalezcamos nuestra capacidad de ser hospitalarios. Que todos los que vengan a las Misas de Navidad sientan que esta es su comunidad, que somos la Iglesia de Cristo, una comunidad de fe unida por el amor a Nuestro Señor y a la Santísima Virgen. Que todos los que vengan puedan experimentar a Cristo para que lo sigan todos los días de su vida.
Hace una semana les hablaba acerca de los trabajos realizados en la oficina parroquial. También quiero dirigir su mirada hacia el exterior de nuestro campus. El equipo de mantenimiento formado por Charlie Bostrom y Galdino Saldaña, han estado trabajando fuertemente para mantener nuestro campus hermoso. Como han podido ver, las ramas de los árboles en el área de la oficina y de la rectoría han sido cortadas y reparadas. Muchas hojas han tapado los drenajes de esos dos edificios y se hacía necesario tomar alguna medida. Gracias a Galdino por, como dice él, “cortarle el pelo a los árboles.”
También les quiero dejar saber que durante el verano se cambió una parte del techo de la escuela, particularmente el techo sobre el gimnasio. El costo final del proyecto fue de $235,950. En mayo, el consejo financiero, la directora de la escuela, el P. Kris y yo nos reunimos para discutir el proyecto. Parte del dinero fue tomado de la cuenta de Bingo y de otros ahorros de la parroquia. Gracias a todos los voluntarios y jugadores de Bingo por su generosidad con nuestra comunidad parroquial. Gracias a todos ustedes que han aportado de una u otra forma para que se puedan hacer estos proyectos de mejoramiento en nuestro campus. Aún falta otro techo en la escuela para ser reparado. Les estaremos informando acerca de ese proyecto en el siguiente semestre.
El proyecto de calefacción y aire acondicionado para el edificio llamado Unit D es algo necesario y espero poder actualizarlos durante las Misas. Cualquier dinero que usemos para proyectos capitales debería regresarse a las cuentas para futuras necesidades. Por ello sigo pidiendo a todos que colaboremos en este proyecto ya que el beneficio es común. Agradezco a los parroquianos y organizaciones que ya han manifestado su deseo de aportar para que el proyecto sea una realidad.
Nos vemos la próxima semana para celebrar la Navidad, un tiempo de esperanza, amor y compasión porque Cristo nace. Dios los bendiga!
